Saks Fifth Avenue Interview Questions & Tips

Hiring process information for an interview at Saks Fifth Avenue

Multiple Interviews

Upscale department store chain Saks Fifth Avenue typically screens applicants by putting them through two or more rounds of interviews. Saks Fifth Avenue most often conducts a formal face-to-face interview that focuses on understanding an applicant's personality and experience. Most interviews are held by Saks Fifth Avenue general managers and last between 10 and 30 minutes. In some cases, applicants may need to participate in phone and group interviews.

Typical Interview Questions

Saks Fifth Avenue generally looks for applicants with sales and customer service experience. Interviewers usually ask behavioral questions to test how applicants previously acted in sales and service situations. Some interview questions unique to Saks Fifth Avenue include:

  • "What do you know about Saks Fifth Avenue?"
  • "Why are you attracted to fashion?"
  • "How is Saks Fifth Avenue different from other stores?"
  • "What would you do to get a customer to return to the store?"

What to Wear

As an upscale retailer, Saks Fifth Avenue expects job hopefuls to wear formal business attire for the interview. Saks Fifth Avenue sales associates wear suits and professional businesswear on the job, and candidates should wear similar clothing to the interview. Wearing clothing from Saks Fifth Avenue may further benefit a job seeker.

How to Stand Out

In addition to looking professional for the Saks Fifth Avenue interview, applicants need to act professionally, as well. When answering questions, candidates should provide concise, well-thought-out responses that directly address what interviewers wish to know. Additionally, applicants need to exhibit adequate interpersonal skills by being friendly and well-spoken. Strong eye contact and good posture assist applicants in exhibiting confidence.

Following Up

Applicants may extend professionalism beyond the interview by sending thank-you notes or emails to Saks Fifth Avenue hiring personnel a couple days after interviewing.

I just had 2 personal interviews and a call back interview from Saks. I was asked to call back the hiring manger the next day to comment on whether I would be better for women’s wear or intimate apparel. I found that odd. When I called back I answered that I was more experienced with clothing but would perform either job to the best of my abilities. I wanted to be honest with her since she stressed that it was important that the person who worked in intimate apparel was comfortable.
She said I would be getting a call from someone. What does this mean?

I went for what was supposed to be a 20 minute interview that turned into an hour long interview. I had 2, they were so pleasant I was sooo nervous until I walked into the building, you’ll notice a lot of almost unpleasant closed elder woman, that didn’t seem any kind of friendly I took advantage of that, because I’m such a happy person I felt like I lite up the room I had my hair in a french bun with middle part & bangs, black polka dots on a cream chiffon blouse, a black blazer black wedges with a cream wood panel, & black leggings, My lips were stained red as were my nails . I wore simple diamond studs

I dont have much to say as I never post comments. But the comment left by Angel really disturbed me. I know for a fact it is never acceptable to wear leggings to an interview! duh?? Thats why they are banned from most work environments. Any professional environment at least. Then you topped it off with red lipstick and fingernails. OMG! I hope you get the job and get to see how to dress in a professional environment. I am no expert but I can say I always get the job!! So I must know a little something about interviewing. Please Please no one follow her actions! Jobs are scarce now of days and it is hard to get an interview. So dont blow it before your even interviewed all because of a bad fashion choice.
