Saltgrass Steak House Interview Questions & Tips

What to Expect During the Interview Process

Saltgrass Steak House usually evaluates candidates through one or two face-to-face interviews. The restaurant chain keeps the interview process relaxed, as most interviews never last longer than 25 minutes. The restaurant interviews feature basic inquiries like:

  • "Tell me about yourself."
  • "Why do you wish to work with Saltgrass Steak House?"
Hiring managers look for honest, straightforward answers to these questions because they genuinely want to see if an applicant is a good fit for the company. Following basic questions, applicants may be asked a number of behavioral questions, such as:
  • "When have you worked as part of a team to accomplish a common goal?"
  • "Could you please describe a time when you had to go out of your way to help someone?"
Interviewers generally look for applicants to provide examples from past work experiences. Job hopefuls without experience may draw upon experiences from school, sports teams, or community activities for answers. After interviewing concludes, applicants may need to wait several days before hearing back with hiring decisions.

Saltgrass Hostess Interview Video

Video Transcript

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Saltgrass Hostess: I was just a hostess. All I did was take people to their table, cleaned up, kept the hostess area cleaned, did anything that the waiters and waitresses asked.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Saltgrass Hostess: It was busy all the time, like Fridays, the weekends it was really busy. You’d usually be on an hour to two hour wait. I think, in my opinion, the hostess have the hardest job, especially when it’s on wait because you have to deal with all the people, not just the people at your table.

Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Saltgrass Hostess: It was fun. The managers were very nice. The food was good. They had a great discount for employees. That was always a perk.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Saltgrass Hostess: I walked in to get an application, and the manager saw me. He told me to come back the next day for an interview, and I got the job, but there’s also a packet. You have to take tests just to be a host, which I thought was crazy, but I mean you learn every single thing that the waitress and the servers do. You go, you pass a test, and you get the job.

Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Saltgrass Hostess: I don’t know. I like to talk, so I was really talkative to the manager. I told him I wanted to work, so that usually gets me in.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Saltgrass Hostess: Talk and smile and tell people you want to work and you’re willing to work, because they need workers.
