Video Transcript
Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Sears Auto Center Service Technician: I’m a service tech 1, so basically I do oil changes, batteries, tires, fluid exchanges. That’s basically it.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Sears Auto Center Service Technician: I like it. We work at a big shop with eight to ten bays, so we have a lot of room. I get along with all my coworkers.
Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Sears Auto Center Service Technician: I would come in the morning, then depends on what’s lined up for us. Oil changes… usually I’d start on those, then tires. Then, tech 2s or tech 3s would do alignments or whatever else was up on the list.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Sears Auto Center Service Technician: It’s long and tedious, but they usually give you a lot of time to do those. There’s a lot of testing to do, as well. Usually about 18 hours of testing if you actually get hired. But, it’s not that bad. It’s fairly simple, just long.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Sears Auto Center Service Technician: Probably to do research about the company. I guess I would say learn a lot about cars if you don’t have that much knowledge because it will help you a lot when you start the training process and the testing online.

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Sears Automotive Customer Service Associate: I work in the automotive department. I’m a CSA – customer service associate. My job is to ask customers that pull up to the side door. I let them in, asking them what they need to get done, what they’re bringing their car in for.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Sears Automotive Customer Service Associate: The work environment was very relaxed, I would say. Cars come in occasionally, you write them up, and you just put them in the computer and take it from there. So in between cars, it’s very relaxed. Just sit there, walk around the store, and help cars as they come in.
Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Sears Automotive Customer Service Associate: My favorite part about working there was definitely the very relaxed work environment. You have certain tasks you’re supposed to do every day. Other than that, it’s very relaxed, everybody helps each other, and it’s just a really friendly environment.
Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Sears Automotive Customer Service Associate: Typical day… walk in, clock in, just man the post at the computer desk, wait for cars to pull in, and as vehicles pull in, write them up, ask them what they need, try to get them into a better product. If they came in for an oil change, ask them, “Would you like to try this oil change?” Really try to do what’s best for them and their vehicle.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Sears Automotive Customer Service Associate: The interview process… I applied online for the position. A good time later, I got a call asking me to come in for the interview. The interview was about five, 10 minutes long, asked questions about where have I worked before, what my strengths are and what my weaknesses are, trying to find out if I’d be a good fit or not. They were really big on what previous jobs I had, seeing what kind of experience they had there.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Sears Automotive Customer Service Associate: Be prepared for a lot of training, and once you’re out of training, they keep your fairly up-to-date as far as codes, what they want you to sell, what they want you to set as far as goals. You have new goals each day, so you have to work hard to keep your position at the store, and it’s just one of those things you have to work really hard at to keep the job.
