Sears Cashier Interview Video

Video Transcript

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Sears Cashier: I worked as a cashier and I helped with stocking. And that was pretty much it. Sometimes I would work in automotive selling tires and all kinds of stuff. So, I did a little bit of everything.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Sears Cashier: It was friendly. There were more men working than women because men like their appliances, I guess. So, it was a friendly environment, though. I liked it.

Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Sears Cashier: Busy. I didn’t know people got up early to go get power saws. Most of them pretty much knew what they wanted. Like I said, a lot of people that worked there were men. A lot of the customers were men because the Sears that I worked at was more appliance-based, so I got to work with a lot of men.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the interview?
Sears Cashier: I guess it was like any other job. They asked what benefits you can get from the company, what you think you can contribute to the company, how you would help the company.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking for employment?
Sears Cashier: Make sure you like people. If you don’t like people, whether it’s Sears or any company, don’t go into the job if you don’t like people. Learn a little bit about the appliances, too, that you’re selling. If you know more about them, you can help the customers better.

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Sears Cashier: At Sears, I started off as a cashier, and I moved to sales floor. Basically, all of our positions were multi-tasking. Even if you had one position, you were responsible for whatever they needed done.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Sears Cashier: At my particular location, it was small. You knew everyone there. It wasn’t like if I worked for my other jobs where it was a lot of people. It was like a family-type atmosphere.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Sears Cashier: I actually applied online. I didn’t hear from them for maybe six months, so I forgot all about it. The one day they gave me a call, I went in for one interview. They liked me, and I proceeded for a drug test. Then, I was hired.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Sears Cashier: They wanted to know if my personality meshed with the business. I particularly worked in a hardware store. They wanted to know if I had any experience with tools or knowledge of the type of things that I will be selling.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Sears Cashier: I would tell them, “Be honest with your application. Be patient because all of the application is online. It’s not like you go in, hand it in so it’s like a face-to-face thing. It’s not like that. Have patience!”

Video Transcript

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Sears Cashier: My primary job title and duties at Sears… I started off as a cashier and then ventured into the sales associate role over my three years there.

Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Sears Cashier: My favorite part of working there was the ability to move around. We could move from different departments to gravitate more to the tool department eventually. That’s where I stayed at most of the time. That was my favorite part. And the people who worked in that department, because we got to work with the sales associates. And they weren’t behind the register; they were just there selling things. So, we got to communicate with people rather than being at the other cash wraps by yourself.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Sears Cashier: I applied online, and it was my first job that I had ever applied for. And I got it. I had an interview, came in for training. It was pretty solid. It just went straight through. So, I didn’t really know how to look forward to an interview or what to do, since it was my first one.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Sears Cashier: The questions that I had from that interview process… because it was my first job, I think they asked me more questions just to see where I was, because I was 16 or 17 at the time. So, a lot of customer service-related questions, what I would do in a specific situation. For example, if a customer came up to you and asked you for something you didn’t have any knowledge of, what would you do? Just a lot of different scenario questions as well as if I had any experience anywhere else.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Sears Cashier: If someone was trying to start a job at Sears, I would recommend that you have prior customer service experience depending on what department you wanted to work in. It’s pretty entry-level, if you started working as a cashier, with the training that they give you. I feel like as a first job, it would be a pretty great start for someone looking for a job.
