Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
SeaWorld Safety Team Lifeguard: I was a safety team lifeguard. My primary duties were to keep the park and its attendees safe. I would man stations. I would make sure that if somebody was hurt, that they received First Aid care. Basically, if people were goofing around to the point where safety was being compromised, to make sure that stopped so we can keep everybody safe.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
SeaWorld Safety Team Lifeguard: The work environment was pretty nice. We basically rotated with other lifeguards so we didn’t stay at the same point. It wasn’t boring in that sense. You had different scenery as well. Over the summer when it’s really hot out, you could actually go in the water to lifeguard, so it was pretty neat. They paid well so I liked it for one of my first jobs being in high school still at the time. It was perfect for me.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
SeaWorld Safety Team Lifeguard: The application is pretty simple, just like any other job. You go online, fill it out. Then if you meet all the qualifications, they actually have an interview. After that, they do make you do a swimming test because as a lifeguard you need to be able to swim and meet all the requirements. If you’re not certified already, they actually do train you which is included. In the training you actually get paid for the time you dedicate, so it’s pretty neat.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
SeaWorld Safety Team Lifeguard: Questions like one that really stood out was name a particular situation where someone didn’t go as planned and how did you recover from it. I listed something from my school because we, a lot of times, had to do group projects and sometimes one or two of the members don’t do their job and you have to pick up the slack for them.
Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
SeaWorld Safety Team Lifeguard: I think I was really qualified. I’ve been swimming for my entire life. I already had some safety qualifications and then I was also on the varsity team. My resume was pretty good from previous experience and just making sure you meet all the other requirements. Be there on time, well dressed, well spoken, and as long as you meet those qualifications, they’re always looking for people.
Interviewer: How were you notified that you received the job?
SeaWorld Safety Team Lifeguard: I provided my email address and I believe they sent me an email, but it was less than a week. That’s actually one of the things that I asked during the interview. That person who interviews you can also provide you with a more on-point answer.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
SeaWorld Safety Team Lifeguard: Just make sure you do your research and be prepared. If you do want to become a lifeguard, know that you’ll have to swim even if you don’t ever have to save somebody’s life or have to do anything that a lifeguard does. They’ll still test you just in case because safety is priority.
