Sheraton Lead Cook: Lead supervisor. My official duty was to come in in the morning. I started cooking for the breakfast buffet when we have bacon, sausage, pancakes, whatever for the buffet, and also to prep for an omelet station. Also, to set-up all the items like the waffle machine, all those things in preparation for room service and dining room.

Sheraton Lead Cook: Sometimes it was slow and sometimes it was a little stressful, because you were not only ala carte or what we say “cook to order” for dining room, but you are also working on a banquet, but then you also work in cooking from the room service menu, too. Sometimes it could get very busy trying to keep everything on line.

Sheraton Lead Cook: The application and interview process? Application, I fill out the application. I presented my resume. Then I was asked questions about as far as my skills, my attitude, what did I do in my previous jobs. Some of the things … It was where they asked me to make a dish or something like that, make a special. What would you do if I give you some chicken breast, some onions, some base? Make me a meal. Make me a special out of this. It was like an on a job, too.
Interviewer: What should an applicant wear to the interview?
Sheraton Lead Cook: I would say chef’s jacket has always worked good for me. I’ve always gotten a lot of compliments out of the chef jacket. It gives you the chef jacket, black pants, shoes. Make sure they’re ironed real good, crisp. Make sure your hair’s trimmed. I’ve always gotten good feedback on coming in. It give you the impression that you are ready to work now. I’m ready to start ASAP.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Sheraton Lead Cook: When you go there, have a great attitude, a great smile. Have the willingness to want … If you love what you’re doing, then your attitude will show when you’re talking to the employer. That will win you over.
