Spirit Halloween Team Member Interview Video
Video Transcript
Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Spirit Halloween Team Member: I was just a basic team member. I was in charge of running the register, helping customers on the floor, find costumes and things like that, letting them try it on. Yeah, that’s basically it.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Spirit Halloween Team Member: It was interesting, because most of the employees were from Spencer’s when spirit Halloween had opened up, so they were all, they all had their little niche and then I came in, so I was kind of like the outcast. But they were very welcoming and they were very supportive, which was really nice. It was a lot of fun to work there.
Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Spirit Halloween Team Member: Probably the music that they played in the store. Just the cool Halloween music that they played on loop all the time.
Interviewer: Please describe the application and interview process.
Spirit Halloween Team Member: I went in, I filled out my application online, and then I came in for an interview, and then I think I was hired about a week later. But then I actually, I had like an actual interview. She was like, “What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses? How would you deal with a customer if they have an expired coupon?” Questions like that.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Spirit Halloween Team Member: Probably just like the experience that I had in customer service. Working at Little Caesars for so long and a few other places that… I have a lot of experience with dealing with customers and putting on a friendly face and making sure everyone feels welcome every time that they come in.
Interviewer: How were you notified that you received the job?
Spirit Halloween Team Member: It was about a week I think, and they called me up and they were like, “Hey, your interview went great. Congratulations, we’re going to offer you this job.” And then they started scheduling me my hours.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Spirit Halloween Team Member: That is a very demanding job because your entire shift you’re on your feet. There’s no chairs. I mean, you get like like a 15 minute, half-hour break depending on how long you work, and you’re constantly roaming the store, constantly cleaning, constantly stocking. So you just got to make sure that you can handle that.

Spirit Halloween Cashier: It was hectic. Employees were nice, but customers could be frantic at times. The closer you got to Halloween, the more people would be coming in, and they would just throw the costumes everywhere. In addition to ringing them up and trying to be pleasant, you had to clean up their mess right behind them.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Spirit Halloween Cashier: It was kind of application/interview all in the same day. Like I said, it was a very busy time for them, and they really just wanted to get more help. Granted viable and reliable help, but they just really wanted to get more help in for the season. Application was right in store, hiring process it was a very busy time, so I filled out the application, they said, “When are you available?” I was practically in the next day.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Spirit Halloween Cashier: In addition to having a little bit of a tough skin, be able to have fun. Because all in all, Halloween is a fun time, and customers aren’t going to want you if you’re uptight. Be able to roll with the punches.

Spirit Halloween Sales Associate: For Spirit Halloween, I was a sales associate and it was a seasonal job that I did. All we had to do was, my job was to restock the shelves, work the cash register usually. Just promote, provide customer service to anybody that came in. It was assist them if they were looking for certain costumes because Spirit Halloween is only … All throughout October. Then working the register was fairly easy as well. Give out the discounts towards the end of Halloween, after Halloween they also have discounts. I have to make sure I had to manage that correctly, but yeah just sales and register.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Spirit Halloween Sales Associate: I liked it, it was a lot of fun actually. We had a good crew. We had a young crowd mostly. It was high school students, you can relate to anyone. Everyone was your same age, but it was fun. What else? We did have … It wasn’t as flexible as one would say because they’re only for the month of October. They want you to do as many hours as you can for that month of October. Maybe the work environment you have to be there a lot. That was a downside. You did get the hours that you wanted. It was fun though. It was a good environment for sure.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Spirit Halloween Sales Associate: For the application, I know I had to apply online. It was a pretty smooth process. After that they called me in for a personal interview. I was actually talking to the manager of the Spirit Halloween by my house. After that we just shared a few things and then they sent me to go get drug tested. Is that something that particularly matters? They sent you to get drug tested which the company pays for and they send in the results for you. Then you get hired off of that. That’s the last thing with the drug test, once you pass your personal interview, you can go on and take a drug test.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Spirit Halloween Sales Associate: Pretty straight forward, pretty easy. What are your greatest strengths? What have you worked in before? Do you have any experience with customer service, retailing? Pretty straight forward, they just want to know what you can bring in to the team.
Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Spirit Halloween Sales Associate: I did say that I had great people skills because before Spirit Halloween, I was employed at another company, Six Flags. Through there I just learned how to communicate with customers on a daily basis and I know how to up-sell items. During my job I had to restock shelves and stuff. I had retail experience. With my experience that I had, I was able to step ahead of the competition I was with.
Interviewer: How were you notified that you received the job?
Spirit Halloween Sales Associate: It was a call, I think. I thought I was different, I thought I was going to get an email or something, but they did give me a call. After that they did send me an email with all my application stuff, but it was a call.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Spirit Halloween Sales Associate: Just use everything, all your past experience honestly. All your past experience, that can be volunteer work through work history. Bring it up to an employer and just tell them, show them your value.
