Steve Madden Sales Associate Interview Video
Video Transcript
Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Steve Madden Employee: I was a sales associate at Steve Madden, and I dealt with shoes all the time, a lot of customer communication, and just handling all different types of shoes, and making sales and goals – weekly goals, daily goals, all types. Stuff like that.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Steve Madden Employee: It was a good work environment. It’s sales, so there was a lot, you know, trying to make your goals and trying to have people buy more. It was good. It was just a lot of meeting goals. Had to push to make a lot of sales.
Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Steve Madden Employee: It was pretty good. We will just go in and first of all we’d see if we added a new styles or new promotions going on, and then if we did then we would have to let our customers know, put up signs and posters, and stuff like that. And then, we just kind of sell it out to our customers, try as much as we can. Definitely cleaning and, you know, taking care of the store itself and making sure everything’s organized and going well.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Steve Madden Employee: It was just a regular application online, and then they call you in for a group interview. You just go in and pretty much just sit with a couple of other people. That’s where they asked you a bunch of questions about yourself and your background, and from there on, that was it.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Steve Madden Employee: They actually made me sell something to them. They gave me an item, just like a keychain or something, and they asked me to sell it to the manager that was interviewing, and so I did. I tried to sell it as best as I can.
Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Steve Madden Employee: It was had to be that I definitely was able to sell the item to the manager and my previous skills as customer service and being to communicate with people. Good customer service is a really big thing. They want to make sure that you are able to help your customers and provide them with excellent service.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Steve Madden Employee: It’s kind of a big risk. You have to meet a lot of the goals, and you have to be able to sell. If you like to sell, then you’re going to do a good job. If you like the environment or retail, then you’ll love the job. It’s a good job. It’s fun, if you like shoes, too.
