Multiple Interview Sessions
Participating in two face-to-face interviews typically proves the norm for gaining hiring consideration at SunTrust Bank. Workers submit the necessary materials either online or directly to hiring personnel and then wait for callbacks to schedule interviews. The entire hiring process takes about a week to complete. Larger applicant pools may increase the time spent in the interview process. The initial phone call to schedule subsequent interviews sometimes takes the place of the first face-to-face interview.
How the Hiring Process Works
The 1:1 interview portion of the hiring process generally includes an informal session with a branch manager or assistant branch manager. The brief meeting often lasts 20 to 30 minutes and includes interview questions touching on topics ranging from hobbies, banking, job duties, work environments, company culture, salary expectations, and technical aspects of working in the banking industry. The interview questions posed by hiring representatives generally do not require overly elaborate or intricate responses. Workers must simply demonstrate truthful and honest personalities and personal enthusiasm for the opportunity to work for the banking firm. SunTrust Bank often extends formal job offers to applicants during the second interview, at which time candidates submit to background checks and possible drug screening, if necessary.
Suntrust Bank Teller Interview Video
Video Transcript
Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Suntrust Bank Teller: My job title is currently a part-time teller. My duties include processing transactions, telling customers about our different products and ways that we can help them financially, and referring them to our bankers in regards to any questions that they might have. That’s about it, just being kind and giving them whatever they need.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Suntrust Bank Teller: It can get pretty fast paced on Mondays and Fridays but other days of the week are pretty slow. I oftentimes find myself with pretty much nothing to do but research products and just look more into our clients, trying to learn a little bit more and that’s about it.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Suntrust Bank Teller: The application process was pretty simple. You just go on the website and you apply. You should get a call within one or two weeks. If they are interested then they would proceed with a phone interview. If you passed that then you go into a personal interview with a branch manager.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Suntrust Bank Teller: Some of the questions are why SunTrust, what’s your previous job experience and a lot of the questions are behavioral based: give me an example of when you had a difficult client, how you dealt with the situation and the steps you took to resolve the problem.
Interviewer: What should an applicant wear to the interview?
Suntrust Bank Teller: I would say dress as professional as possible. If you’re a male definitely wear a suit, if you’re a female try to wear a skirt suit, I believe that’s what it’s called. Yeah, just dress just as professional as you can, nothing too flashy, no loud colors, black and gray are great. That’s it.
Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Suntrust Bank Teller: I think what set me apart from other applicants is that I mentioned that I was looking for a company that I wanted to grow old with. That’s something that a lot of companies are looking for in young applicants is that you’re looking to stay there for a long time and not just hop jobs.
Interviewer: How were you notified that you received the job?
Suntrust Bank Teller: I waited a week and I just got a phone call so that’s how they notified me. After that proceeded with emails that different papers that I had to fill out but that was it.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Suntrust Bank Teller: I would say … It’s very intimidated when you’re applying for a bank job. You think, oh, you have to have a lot of credentials, a lot of experience but I would say go for it. Be confident in yourself and the skills that you have. Even though you haven’t had any job experience you’d be surprised at what experiences you have learned through your education.
