What to Expect During the Hiring Process
Applicants looking for a rewarding career in the salon industry should take the time to apply with Supercuts. Candidates should expect initial phone interviews after applying either online or in-person at a neighboring location. Most interviewees face a series of one-on-one interviews coupled with demonstrations of cutting abilities on a model. Applicant hires may occur after first-hand demonstrations or may require further training at the company hair styling academy. Most job seekers state the hiring process culminates in background checks and drug screening.
Typical Interview Questions
Candidates may expect to face more than one interview and the hiring process to take up to four weeks to complete. Interviewees respond to questions about availability, previous work experience, and any relatable education. Typical interview questions posed include:
- "What would you do if you misunderstood what the client wanted as a final result?"
- "How would you handle a rowdy child in your chair?"
- "How would you go about recommending and selling our hair products?"

Supercuts Receptionist Interview Video
Video Transcript
Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Supercuts Employee: My job title was receptionist, and I was pretty much the front desk person. I would pick up the phones, I’d make appointments, I would make sure that people were on time with their appointments and schedule people who walked in, check shipments, things like that.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Supercuts Employee: It was really friendly. It was a pretty easy, cool environment. There wasn’t that much stress. It wasn’t like there are 500 people trying to get one particular person to get their hair cut with. It was just pretty easy, mellow.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Supercuts Employee: It was just a paper application. It was two sided; it was very simple. The interview was a one-time interview. They said they were going to call me back a few days later, and they did. Then, I got the job.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Supercuts Employee: They wanted to know basic questions – how old was I, where was I going to school at the time, and I was in high school. They wanted to know why I wanted to work there, how many hours I wanted to work, what I thought I could contribute to the company.
Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Supercuts Employee: I was really perky and excited to work there. I was pretty available afternoons, and they liked that I didn’t have any other obligations.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Supercuts Employee: I would say that the best thing to do is to be very happy and very social and very open with them, because what they want is for you to be the front desk person. You are going to be the first face that anyone sees when they come in. They want you to be a good representation of them. Whenever you go in, you have to sell them first. I think that’s what you should do. Sell them, be presentable, look nice, have your hair fixed, all that.
