The Limited Job Interview Questions & Tips

Hiring process information for an interview at The Limited

Getting an Interview

Applicants looking for work with The Limited generally interview with a district manager one-on-one. Preceding face-to-face interview sessions, applicants must submit hiring materials to desired store locations. The fashion retailer reviews the employment documents and contacts workers based on the information submitted. Job seekers may submit hiring forms online or in-person. Depending on basic hiring needs, the company may interview candidates immediately, sometimes scheduling interviews merely upon quickly glancing over applicant credentials. In most cases, the hiring process spans a week or two, with successful job hopefuls beginning work within two or three weeks of submitting the required forms.

Common Interview Questions

In addition to 1:1 interview sessions, group interviews may take place during the hiring process, as well. During group interviews, candidates sit with up to ten other applicants and discuss topics covering job responsibilities, clothing and product lines, expectations, availability, and personal styles in open forum format. The Limited group interviews may become competitive at times. Workers should attend group interviews demonstrating clear and articulate communication skills and assertiveness. Common interview questions posed during group interviews include:

  • "Where do you generally shop?"
  • "Do you wear The Limited clothing/accessories?"
  • "How would you describe your personal style?"

Navigating the Hiring Process

The Limited hiring managers generally ask similar interview questions during one-to-one hiring sessions. Applicants vying for sales associate jobs or other entry-level positions sit with district or store managers for 20 to 30 minutes or so. Managerial hopefuls often attend multiple job interviews, which may last roughly the same amount of time. Interviews held early on in the hiring process remain very casual and conversational. Latter stages of the interview process for prospective managers often take on more hard-nosed and intensive overtones. During third interviews, which often prove necessary for managers, applicants may spend as long as an hour responding to thorough inquiries into managerial tactics, work ethics, hypothetical scenarios, and related experiences.

How to Stand Out

As a popular retail chain dealing in mid-to-high fashions, the fashion retailer prefers interviewees to dress well and spend extra time grooming for hiring process. Showing attention to detail in terms of appearances demonstrates enthusiasm and intent to impress. The Limited clothing often serves as ideal wardrobe choices; however, applicants may simply wear formal or sensible and appropriate business attire to each interview session to show genuine interest in the company and a love of fashion in general. Appearances often serve as the initial impression of one's dedication to the fashion retail industry. Well-groomed and manicured demeanors often go further in the interview process and ultimately stand better chances of receiving job offers.

The Limited Sales Associate Interview Video

Video Transcript

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
The Limited Sales Associate: I am a sales associate. Essentially, what I do… I help out clients finding clothing to fit their needs. We ask them what occasion they’re shopping for, what colors they like, and we find clothing to fit their individual needs and body style, then we assist them through the checkout process and all that stuff.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
The Limited Sales Associate: It’s very easygoing. It really depends on the traffic in the mall. It can be really quick paced, and you have a lot of things to do in a short amount of time and a lot of people to help. Or, if it’s kind of a slower day, you get to take your time with the client, and it’s much more easygoing.

Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
The Limited Sales Associate: I really like that a lot of our clients are repeat customers, so they either have a credit card with us or they get the emails and they come in all the time. So, it’s really nice because we get to work with them all the time. We know a lot of them on a first name basis and have relationships with them. When they come in, we ask, “How’s your daughter?” or “How’s so and so?” It’s good because I get to meet new people through it.

Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
The Limited Sales Associate: You go in, ask your boss what needs to be done. Usually there’s go-backs from the dressing rooms. So, you have to put everything back throughout the store, greet customers, tell them about the promotions we have going on, help them in the rooms.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
The Limited Sales Associate: The application was very easy. It was all online. It was very straightforward. There weren’t any trick questions – “Well, what do you do in this situation?” It was very straightforward. The interview process was also very straightforward. They guy who interviewed me was very nice. It was really easy.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
The Limited Sales Associate: Well, because it’s a clothing store, he asked us about our individual style, what we like to do, where we like to shop, what we would usually wear, and how often we keep up with style, fashion forwardness, I guess.

Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
The Limited Sales Associate: I think that I’m a good people person. I like to listen and I like to talk. So, I just talk.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
The Limited Sales Associate: Stay fashion forward, always keep up with the latest trends because we’re always bringing things in that are new, cutting-edge – still classic but has a little bit of an edge to it. Be friendly because no one wants to work with someone who’s a grumpy grouch and just be positive. I mean, it’s a fun job. Stay positive.
