Toys R Us Team Member Interview Video

Video Transcript

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Toys R Us Team Member: My job title is a team member. I’m a cashier. I close and I’m flexible – I can work at Babies R US, I can work at R Zone, which is the video game section, and I can work on the floor, with greeting customers and helping them to find whatever they need to find for a gift or birthday or something of that sort.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Toys R Us Team Member: Fun. Lots and lots of kids, lots and lots of toys. We have a lot of time on our hands, so right now is the kind of slow season, in between holidays, so they let us do homework if we need to. If you’re bored, you can play with toys, you can assist people. Everybody talks to everybody. It’s very fun, I would say.

Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Toys R Us Team Member: Loud, and busy. During the busy season, like Christmas, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, busy and screaming, and running, and mischief – got to keep everything straightened and everything stocked – and getting people in and out as happy as possible. You got to get as many donations as you can, get people to sign up for instant credit cards, and when that happens, you got to slow down; your line gets at a pause, at a standstill. It’s a busy thing, and you got to move fast and make sure your drawer don’t come up short.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Toys R Us Team Member: The application process was long. Long, and I had to do it on the web. It was five different sections. It was the applications for all your information, then there was the application for all your agreements. They talk about attire, professional duties, how to talk, how to smile, hair color, nails, your uniform. You had to agree to all that. Then your next screen, I believe, is your reference screen, so you have to have all your references listed. Then the next screen, you have fifty questions to do in less than thirty minutes. Fifty, and they’re just questions switched around. It’s the same question flipped in different ways to trick you to see how you are, if you’re serious about the job. Then, the final page is just verifying. Then, there’s another page where you have to click which ones you want to do and which ones you wouldn’t want to do; what areas, like I picked cashier at Babies R Us, and the ones I didn’t pick were bathrooms. It’s kind of weird, but I didn’t want to clean bathrooms and trash. I didn’t want to do trash. I think that’s how that went.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Toys R Us Team Member: The question that stood out to me was, “How do I do with kids?” I said, “I think I’m pretty good with kids.” Then she said, “How would you handle a kid screaming at you? How would you handle that pressure? How would you feel if a kid lost their mom? Would you crack under pressure? Would you be calm? Would you try to calm down a kid? Would you restrain the kid? Would you just walk away?” I think that was a question for me, and the answer was: “I would try to calm them down more, because I can’t understand crying, and understand the real problem.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Toys R Us Team Member: My advice is take your time on the application because it’s long and it might get irritating. Read every question thoroughly and answer them as best you can because that one question can mess up everything. So, I would say take your time and don’t be nervous. Just talk, just let it flow.

Toys R Us Stock Associate Interview Video

Video Transcript

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Toys R Us Employee: At Toys R Us, I was a stock person/cashier from time to time, but mainly stock. I did a lot of stocking.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Toys R Us Employee: The work environment there was very tiring and a workout because being a stock person, you’re moving a lot of boxes, heavy lifting. Hours… when you stock, you don’t work the normal hours. You’re usually there either very early in the morning or very late, when the truck comes and unloads. So, it was very tiring. I was tired of stocking about as quick as I got the job.

Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Toys R Us Employee: My favorite part would be the check. The check was good. And the job wasn’t even that hard, there was just a lot going on. I always seem to get a job during the holiday season, and during that time, there’s just a lot going on. At Toys R Us with the stocking, trucks were constantly coming in. I was constantly lifting and moving and ordering certain things for the aisles and it was time consuming. So, there was a lot going on. I enjoyed it because it was like a work out. I’m pretty little already, so it was a workout. I like working with people, and it was a team job.

Interviewer: Did you earn any benefits or other job perks?
Toys R Us Employee: Yeah. Me being into video games, I got a lot of discounts on the electronics there, and I used them all on games. I got an Xbox for cheap using my employee discount. Another benefit, I knew a lot things that were happening before other people knew about it, as far as the toys coming in and the games that were coming in. I knew about them and I could get them before other people could. So, that was a good benefit from working there.

Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Toys R Us Employee: Typical day was a workout. Every day when I got up I knew I was going to be tired when I got off. So it was just get up and “Let’s go get this money.” I kept that motivation and just made it through. Workout.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Toys R Us Employee: It was a two interview process I had to go through. The first one was to see how I can help the company out as far as my presence there. After that interview, it was the second interview, as far as can I lift seventy-five pounds a day and can I stay focused, basically.

Interviewer: What should an applicant wear to the job interview?
Toys R Us Employee: To be honest, every interview you go through, you should dress casual. Be presentable, nothing crazy.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Toys R Us Employee: Questions like if I’ve seen a fellow employee stealing or doing something that they weren’t supposed to be doing, would I tell or look the other way. Things like that. As far as questions like what could I bring to the company.

Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Toys R Us Employee: Just me being a people person from off the top with the manager. They saw how energetic I was. At the time, I was excited about the job, so they saw energetic and eager I was to work. And I believe that’s what got me the job.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking for employment?
Toys R Us Employee: Depending on the department you want to do – I was doing stock – so with that you have to really be in shape, be ready to lift all hours of the day, be able to be on call when they say, “I need you here.” You’ve got to be able to do it without any problems. As long as you can do that, it’s a good job for you.
