Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Wendy’s Team Member: I worked as a team member for Wendy’s. I would just be the cashier mostly, just handled with people and all that. And then sometimes I would go and clean the tables and all that.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Wendy’s Team Member: It was laid back, I would say. I mean, it’s a challenge because you have to always be on your feet.
Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Wendy’s Team Member: My favorite part was meeting new people. I always had a smile on my face every time I met new people.
Interviewer: Please describe the application and interview process.
Wendy’s Team Member: I had to fill out an application. I remember one time I went when I was 15 just to eat a meal there, and the manager was there and she was like, “Are you looking for a job?” That’s what she asked me. And I was like, “I’m not old enough.” So I had to wait like a year to apply there.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Wendy’s Team Member: Well, when I first got there, I brought my resume with me, so they didn’t ask me too many questions. They just looked at my resume, and on the spot they hired me.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Wendy’s Team Member: Just have a good personality. Always have a smile. Be ready for working.

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Wendy’s Crew Member: Basically, with Wendy’s company, I started off as just a crew member, the fries.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Wendy’s Crew Member: If I had to say, very clean. I stayed on time for my shift. I really didn’t have any problems with the manager or any of the crew members. Real good environment, I have to say.
Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Wendy’s Crew Member: The people. The people that came in a lot of times were friendly. Sometimes, you could get people that are kind of irate; maybe they didn’t like the way their fries were served or the way their sandwich came out. We just gave them something fresh, instead of redoing it. Say some lettuce was missing or something like that, we’re not just going to open your sandwich and throw some lettuce on it or anything like that. If I had to say, the people – they really make your day, if you’re a people person.
Interviewer: Did you earn any benefits or other job perks?
Wendy’s Crew Member: Within my third month, we had raffles where we made it fun, where you picked up an extra shift you might get a free sandwich or free frosty or something like that. Company picnics are always in the summertime when the weather is nice.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Wendy’s Crew Member: Pretty plain and simple. I just got on the website that I was guided to by the manager that I knew. I filled out the application. It was pretty simple; your name, address, previous employer, past addresses, age, if you’re a U.S. citizen. How many hours you were looking for was kind of a buzz for me. I had never seen that on an application for McDonald’s, Taco Bell, and other places, so I kind of found that interesting. Whether or not you had any criminal background, of course, and whether you were legitimate about everything you put on there, and basic signature, date. Once I filled that in, a manager contacted me by phone. We set up a couple things, and we set up an interview date, and I went in for the interview. I waited about a week and a half, then I got a call back for a shift, and it was evenings that I worked.
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the interview?
Wendy’s Crew Member: The manager kind of stuck to what shift they had available, would I be on time, could I call in advance to let them know if I would be late because I’m a bus rider – I don’t drive a car. If there’s something that’s going to come up later on and you know it’s going to come up, maybe a month in advance, try to work it out with a different crew worker and see if they can’t take your shift or maybe you can take theirs. Just so you don’t have to call off. Calling off was just like a major thing to them. We are dealing with fast food, we are dealing with people day and night, depending on how available it is to people. So, the more people that we have on the crew, the faster the process for getting the food out. No one has to wait on cold things, stale food, or anything like that; you’re pushing it out by demand. So, really they just focused on: be there for your shift. That was the most important thing, be on time, no excuses.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Wendy’s Crew Member: Know a little bit about it. Maybe go in, order a sandwich or fries or something, and sit down – don’t just grab it and go. Sit down and that can kind of give you a feel about the environment. That way you can know: “I don’t really want to work here” or “This might be a good thing. Of course, location was the best thing for me. That’s why I chose the one on Market. Honestly, you really want to know where you’re going to want to work at, as far as cleanliness, rudeness. If you can get anything from the manager, that would be good, so that you know what you could possibly go through, going through the interview process and working at the job. If you can feel a little bit of the environment, I think that goes a long way for you because you don’t have to second-guess, “What am I getting myself into?” I know that not just one time going in there is not going to solve any of your questions, but it will at least give you a heads up because I know a lot of places, like Wendy’s, McDonalds, and other chains are having their applications online. So, you’re getting the information, but you’re not really getting the feel, per se. So, I say go in, grab something light, and if you can spare the time, sit in, and if the environment works for you, apply for the job.

Wendy’s Team Member: At Wendy’s, my job title was a crew member. I was to take orders. I worked cashier, drive-thru line, and front area, where I just took orders on the front instead of on the drive-thru.
Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Wendy’s Team Member: It was pretty comfortable. It was real social. There was a lot going on, so it was pretty fast paced. Quick and go fast food, so it was a really fast-paced job.
Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Wendy’s Team Member: It’s pretty slow in the morning, and it picks up around four. Lunch is really rapid, but it normally slows down. Then, it was just back to normal.
Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Wendy’s Team Member: I just walked in for an application because I was taking a marketing class, and I needed to have a job for my marketing class. It helped me with my marketing class to get some work experience. So, I pretty much just filled out the application, then I went in for the interview, and the interview was comfortable. She just asked me typical questions, like: “Why am I interested in the job?”, “What can I bring to the job?”
Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Wendy’s Team Member: She just asked me, “What can I bring to the job?”, “Am I good with people?”, and things like that.
Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Wendy’s Team Member: You just got to be ready to work fast paced. If you can’t keep up, it may not be for you, but it’s fast food, so you’ve got to be able to be polite and be correct and on time.
