Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Wet Seal Employee: I was a sales associate. What I did there was I greeted customers, provided customer service, I cashiered, got fitting rooms for them, and other duties that were assigned, like display, fixers, fold clothes, cleaned up the store.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Wet Seal Employee: Very girly. We had very loud music to attract customers to come in. A majority… a lot of the days were fast, always cleaning up the store. Very positive atmosphere, I guess.

Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Wet Seal Employee: Mainly, a typical day would be maintaining the store, folding clothes, putting a new shipment out. Sometimes, we might have a rush where we’re constantly assisting customers. Sometimes, we have needy customers, who need our assistance more than others. Then, we also have a frequent buyer’s card that we have to pitch out and sell. We have to make a certain number each day, so it’s another we’re always pushing, too.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Wet Seal Employee: You have to be over the age of 16 and fill out the application. If we’re hiring or we need, we call back based on credentials and stuff like that. Then, there’s just one interview, and we normally get a call within two days after our manager reaches out to your recommendations, or the people you put on there.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Wet Seal Employee: Mainly, your strengths and weaknesses, what can you bring to the Wet Seal, the store. Then, there’s a question, a scenario kind of mapping out the outfits that you wore to the interview: why did you pick that outfit out and what made you wear it, and how would you sell it to a customer? Some sales questions, like how to sell the frequent buyer’s card, and that’s pretty much about it – just questions about yourself and your uniqueness and why you want to work at the store.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Wet Seal Employee: I would just tell them to go in there looking, not overly dressed, like you want to work there. Don’t come in in sweatpants and a t-shirt, but go in there with clothes that we sell, like casual clothing, because appearance is kind of everything. The manager may look at you and say, “Maybe you’re not fit for this job.” And approach with manners, and ask for the manager, if you can talk to her, because you might sell yourself right then and there, instead of just applying, and they may just file the application away and not look at it again.
